Kiss FM Fashion with Courtney Kopple

All About Courtney

Born a Louisvillian, I graduated from Assumption High School.  As a recent graduate from Western Kentucky University, I have a Bachelors degree in Design, Textiles and Merchandising.   I have worked as wardrobe director for the fashion show “Playback” and production assistant for many shows here in Louisville including “Louisville’s Best Dressed,” with Nigel Barker as celebrity guest.   I am a strong believer of showing integrity in everything you do.  I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, working at bebe and wardrobing.   I think it is important to have that special mentor in your life to guide you through any big decisions.  My mentor is Jo Ross.  Jo is a marketing consultant in the Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Atlanta, and New York markets.   She has given me intellectual insights to the fashion industry.  I have dedicated myself to the fashion industry.   Attending Fashion Week in New York was a highlight of this past year.   Fashion is truly my strongest passion; I feel clothing does more than conceal your body. It has the ability to accentuate your figure, minimize your flaws, give you the image of either professionalism or slovenliness, convey your individuality, and make you feel your best.  Fashion allows people to project the image they want others to see and reflect who they are.    Fashion is exciting in that it is ever changing.

Cameo

The Trend de la Crème: Cameo

The trend started in Europe and has came back several times and made its way again.   The modern cameo is fabulous and everywhere.  We are used to seeing the cameo on accessories and the same goes for the modern cameo except it is now printed on t-shirts and even wedding gowns.  This look has always been romantic and it still is, but it’s also chic and every fashionista needs to rock it out and bring it into their wardrobe this upcoming season.

Suggested way to wear trend: Find a cameo brooch and pin it to blazer with a pair of skinny jeans and tall boots.

Shopping Bag Must: A Fashion Twist

Before the school year starts you want to make sure you are the trendiest fashionista on campus.   Get a loose fitting t-shirt or tank and twist it up in the back, front, or on the side.   You might remember this look from the late 80’s or early 90’s with the plastic ring that came in bright colors.

I love the way this girl in the fedora put a urban twist on the preppy plaid shorts.

Don' Forget your Backside

Don’t Forget Your Backside

You’ve checked yourself out already, everyone has already noticed your cowl neck top and your cute earrings, but do you ever wonder what everyone is seeing as you make your exit? Make sure before you leave your house you’re not only looking good coming in, but also going out, unless of course you want to walk out backwards.

A lot of women forget to do this.  You have to make sure your bra isn’t hanging out or your flat butt doesn’t look so flat.  There are so many women who have their undergarments showing and don’t even realize it.  The key is when you’re shopping take a look at how the clothing fits you in the back and decide what looks good and what kind of undergarments will work.  Hardly any of us have zero body fat and if our pants fit us wrong-hello muffin top.  No fashionista wants to walk out of the house with muffin top, so ladies check out your rear.

Aloha!

Explore your tropical side this spring/summer.  Tropical prints are hitting the runway.  Thank Gucci designer Frida Giannini for the floral prints and leaf motifs.  This look is adventurous and sexy.  Not only is Gucci showing this look, but Diane Von Furstenberg is also jumping into the tropical prints and showing zesty colors from pistachio to citrus lemons and limes to juicy papaya.

Bring back the feeling of being on an island vacation when you slip one of these prints on.  Not only will you look fabulous, but you’ll feel like its summer.

This look is very chic on a silk canvas.

Derby Hats and Trends

Derby Hats and Trends 2009

You can’t pull off being a Derby fashionista without knowing the trends and how to wear them.  First and foremost make sure your biggest Derby fashion accessory, your hat, fits you right.

Here are a few styling tips to keep in mind:

·         Big Brim Hats: Big brim hats usually look best on someone taller.

·         Smaller Brim Hats: If your petite its best to wear a smaller brim hat.  Also if you tilt your hat it makes you look taller.

·         Rounded-off crown is best if you have a smaller face, but not good if you want to appear taller.

·         Squared-off crown is best on a rounded face.

·         Make sure you where your hat the right way on your head.  Your hat needs to sit on top of your forehead so you can see your face.  Also you can tilt your hat to the side, but make sure one side sits on top of your forehead.

·         Be in-trend with your colors this year.  For Oaks the color is pink to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness.  Now for Derby the newest color to be spotting in is purple.  This is good because not many people can wear this color.  If you are one who can pull off purple colors then you will definitely stand out.

·         If you want to embellish your hat with your own personal touch the best place to go around town is Dee’s.  The staff there is very helpful and knowledgeable.

·         If you don’t feel like wearing a hat this year a huge feathered accessory could accent your dress in a different trend.

Shopping Bag Must!

Accessorize your closet! Be sure to check in each week and I will suggest one item you might want to add to your wardrobe.  I will be on trend watch for your every must have to make you look and feel even more fabulous than you are.

Spring! The leaves are coming back, the flowers are blooming, the weather is warmer, and you’re ready to get out all your sleeveless tanks and shorts.   This brings us to:  Easter Sunday.  Wondering what to wear this year? Well I know, an old fashioned Easter dress.  We are definitely going vintage this Easter.  Pastels are all the rage.  Also, florals and silhouettes from the 50’s and 70’s are booming.

Matchy Matchy-Not So Fabulous

Picture this: White simple dress, yellow belt to synch the waist, yellow shoes to match the yellow belt, yellow bangles to match the belt and shoes, and finally a yellow clutch to make the outfit a total fashion disaster.

I think women do this because it seems like the easiest thing to do, but this is not fashionista like behavior.  An outfit is like a piece of art, you have to have a focal point, or your colors should be balanced.  Sometimes if a dress has a print it does look nice to take one of the colors out of the print and use it for your shoes, but don’t overdue it, use a neutral or complimentary color with your bag or bangles.  There are several ways to incorporate color in your outfit.  Look for colors that compliment each other.  For example: during the spring time a watermelon pink will compliment celery green very well.

Here are a few colors I found in Glamour magazine that compliment each other very well:

If you’re out shopping this week, looking for the next piece to make you the walking trend of Louisville, go out and purchase the boyfriend jacket.  You know that feeling when you’re on a date and your date offers you his jacket?  You can have that feeling every day.  Borrowing fashions from men has become quite the development on the runways.  This look is empowering for women and doesn’t show masculinity but authority.  You can wear this look with skinny jeans and a casual or dressy top or a chiffon dress.

Grammy Favs and Paula Abdul
Friday 02-13-2009 9:34am ET

My very favorite of the night was Katy Perry. She looked like a perfect Barbie doll-the dress, the make-up, the hair-absolutely gorgeous.

Carrie Underwood- beautiful. She looked stunning.

Leona Lewis? Her boobs looked like they were stuffed in a potato sack. Eeww.  Gorgeous girl, but not a fan.

Miley Cyrus-Loved it! She looked age-appropriate and amazing. The flower added fun, and the gown was outstanding.

Bai Ling-OMG!! Every time she steps out she looks ridiculous-not a shocker that she looked like a total fool.

Then there was Paula. I have never once watched the Grammys and laughed so hard. She looked like part disco ball, part Roman fashion disaster. Yikes.

Cold Play-The idea and the actual clothes were remarkable, but all together resembled a bunch of skittles.

Brooke Hogan-WTF!! Her hair was too blonde. Her roots were too dark. Down-right tackie.

T-Pain-LOL!! Sure the hat matches the outfit, but the hat is ugly, and so is the outfit.

Another one to make you laugh-MIA.  She will be a huge hit at her soon- to- be babies parties as Bozo the clown.
